Still no answers....July 17, 2008

Still no answers.... We had our much anticipated doctor visit today. We really liked the doctor and Brock cooperated very well for him. Brock was very playful until he heard the doctor say the word "blood". His head popped up quickly at that and he said "Mommy I don't wanna do blood." One of the other doctors in the room started playing with him and he forgot about it. When they took us into the room to draw his blood he immediately knew what they were going to do! Unfortunately, the doctor said that he doesn't really know what is causing Brock's problems. He is checking for some things just to rule out them out, even though he doesn't think these particular things are the problem. The doctor thinks he can rule out leukemia right now . However, one thing that is being speculated is cyclic neutropenia. We did some blood work while we were there. Some of the blood tests will take a little longer to get back, so we may not have results until Thursday or Friday of next week. Yet another long wait... The doctor is going to refer us to another type of specialist to do further testing. I can't remember what type of doctors, but he is going to work with them to help us pinpoint Brock's problem. The upside is that they will do just about every test they can on him to see what they find (some testing for rare disorders and lots of other stuff). The downside is that the doctor said we may never know the cause of Brock's symptoms. He was optimistic that this won't be the case, but he wanted us to know that this is a possibility. If Brock's symptoms increase, change and/or become worse or more frequent then it might shed some light onto the problem. So for now, we are still in the same position. Still waiting and worrying over the possibilities and problems. Brock is doing fine right now....about another 14 days before he will likely have another bout of fever and seizures. We have an MRI scheduled for next Thursday. We are really hoping that goes well. Last time we had an MRI, they overdosed Brock on anesthesia and it made him really sick and groggy for about 3 days. It was a very bad experience. We did take Brock to eat at his absolute favorite place, Casa Ole. For whatever reason, he loves this place...we are all sick to death of it. We had promised him that we would take him there after we went to the doctor. Please keep praying for Brock!
