We survived the hurricane! September 15, 2008

We survived Hurricane Ike! Our house is damaged, but nothing detrimental or devastating. I stayed up the whole night checking things as the storm came in. We lost about 5 or 6 shutters off our house and all of our front gutters. One tree fell along our driveway. There are a lot of tree limbs and stuff in our backyard. Our pool is covered in leaves and branches. We did have some roof damage. I found water coming in through our attic during the storm. It did leak into our playroom upstairs. I can't fully assess that situation until we have power. We had water blow in through all our doors. Our laundry room also got water in it. Once we have power and can really see things upstairs we will be able to see how much damage we have. Now that our power has been out for a few days the house is musty and smells. Our fridge is now leaking everywhere as well as our deep freezer. We cooked a lot of the meat yesterday, but we still have a lot of spoiled food to throw out. I am at a friend's house in Katy today and tonight. I will go back home tomorrow. The kids and I needed a break from the boredom and heat! We need to get a generator but have been unable to find one. There is a lot of damage in Alvin. It will take awhile for things to be up and running again around town. It may take as long as a week (maybe even more) before power is restored. ~S
