Yesterday...September 10, 2008

Yesterday’s Appointment We visited the Molecular Immunologist yesterday. The visit went well and I really liked the doctor. I have never had doctors take such a genuine interest in Brock as I have had at UTMB. The doctor we met with went through the main things that could be causing Brock's problems. Most of them he was able to eliminate already due to previous testing or Brock not having all the symptoms. We are back to the cyclic neutrapenia that seems to be the culprit. Some of his previous blood work indicated this disorder, but since the cell counts in his blood work were not marked as "abnormal" it was not caught. The doctor did some blood work while we were there and we go back next week for another round. Once the fever comes again we will be seen once again and do more blood work. If they see what they want out of these results we may not have to undergo more extensive testing at this time. However, if the results are inconclusive we will have to undergo extensive blood work. That blood work would be done every other day for six weeks. In that case, they will most likely have a line put in so he does not have to get stuck every time. We are hoping they will get what they want this time so we don't have to go that route. We feel a little relieved knowing that we are getting somewhere. I am hoping that we get firm results next week and can begin treatment. We have not discussed his proposed treatment plan, but we do know that it will involve steroid cycles and other drug therapies. I will update once we have more data from the doctor!
