UTMB....January 14, 2009

Our appointment.... Well we had our appointment at UTMB today. It went well and Brock was relieved that they didn't even do blood work!The doctor is starting him on steroids, but we are only doing them for a 4 day time period at a time. He will start one round of them this Friday and take them for 4 days, then we stop and do blood work and other stuff. Then we will resume for another 4 days (not sure how much time in between rounds). Anyhow, they are holding off on the G-CSF injections for now because we are going to do some testing with the Mayo clinic first. Our doctor has been consulting with some doctors at the Mayo clinic about treatments and other possible disorders (there are 2 specific ones) that could be affecting him. There are some specific tests they want to run, however our doctor is waiting for the delivery instructions from Mayo. We should hear more about this next week, which means we will be back at UTMB at some point in the next week for blood work. Now that we have at least some treatment that will be starting we feel a little better. We have been told to watch him carefully during the next several days and watch for the fever. His fever is supposed to start Sunday or Monday, but with the steroid they are hoping it doesn't occur at all. I am not as hopeful, I think the fever will still come but the meds may through it off track a few days. I am usually right about these things but maybe this time I won't be! I will update as I know more.....wish I knew exactly what tests they are doing with the Mayo clinic. Our doctor always tells me that he works on a "need to know" basis. When I need to know the information he will tell me. Sometimes that bugs the crap out of me, but I trust him and so far things are going good.More later.....
